Depression is a serious illness, which can take on many forms. More than the occasional feeling of sadness, depression is characterized by a prolonged feeling of sadness, anxiety, helplessness, pessimism, guilt, restlessness, fatigue, insomnia and/or difficulty concentrating, among other things. Researchers believe that depression is caused by a combination of genetic, biological, environmental and psychological factors. Many of those suffering from depression do not seek help but depression can get better and be managed with treatments like medication and psychotherapy. http://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/topics/depression/index.shtml
