Abortion in the Seventies is the edited proceedings of the 1976 Western Regional Conference on Abortion held in Denver, Colorado from February 27-29, 1976. It was edited by Warren M. Hern, M.D., M.P.H., and Bonnie Andrikopoulos, R.N., who were the conference organizers. It was first published in 1977 by the National Abortion Federation in New York and is now published by Alpenglo Graphics, Boulder, Colorado. Participants in the conference, whose presentations are chapters in the book, include many nationally recognized leaders from various professions in the fields of medicine, law, public policy, and public health. Contents include Medical Aspects of Abortion, Public Health Aspects of Abortion, Evaluation of Abortion Services, Abortion Nursing, Counseling and Psychological Aspects of Abortion, Education and Information, Economic and Health Insurance Aspects of Abortion, Legal Aspects of Abortion, Legislative and Political Aspects of Abortion, and remarks by public officials including Governor Richard Lamm, Congresswoman Patricia Schroeder, Texas State Representative Sarah Weddington, greetings from the White House by Betty Ford, remarks by officials of the US Commission on Civil Rights and the National Academy of Sciences. Presentations are followed by transcripts of discussion among participants and observers. The Western Regional Conference on Abortion was the first major national conference on abortion held since the 1971 Conference on Abortion Techniques and Services held in New York City.
