Safe Harbors was founded in June 2004 and has helped thousands of ex-offenders and substance abusers regain their lives Leonard Guevara, the director and founder, had a vision to start this program after completing a similar one himself He saw how it helped him get back on his feet and give him a support system that he would not have had otherwise He wanted to be able to give back to the community, and thought the best way to do so was to open a house where people with substance abuse problems could regain their sobriety by living in a clean and safe environmentEach client that enters the program is required to stay at least 90-days and fill many requirements while they are here They have to be serious about their sobriety and attend twelve step meetings daily along with finding a sponsor to work with Clients must find employment so they are able to pay the fees of the household and can be self-sufficient once their program is complete Throughout their stay, clients are given support from Safe Harbors by having in-house meetings and a computer room for online job applicationsClients at Safe Harbors have a specially tailored program to them, and must complete it before they are allowed to leave Safe Harbors has had many successes with clients in the past and wants to be able to provide this opportunity to many others in the future
