Therapeutic Lessons: An Introduction to Working with Clients with Serious and Persistent Mental Illness

Therapeutic Lessons is an introduction to working with clients who suffer from serious and persistent mental illness (SPMI) at an outpatient treatment facility. Some of the basic concepts presented include: mental illness, outpatient treatment, recovery, wellness, tools of the trade, as well as group and individual therapy. Also included are sections pertaining to both challenges faced by those in the field and helpful strategies that address those challenges and prevent burnout. Finally, the book concludes with a short wish list of changes to improve services in the mental health system.
