I was so sad to hear about Lacie Weitz, Oak Park High School graduate was only 29 years old. Her artistic representations about the way she felt addicted and consumed with her opiate addiction is so visceral and such a unique perspective. I really wish she could have used this artistic freedom to help others while potentially helping herself through this very expressive drawings of her pain. lacie went to over 28 rehab programs. What a great opportunity to potentially see that rehab is not for everyone and finding a passion or outlet for your pain can be the best route to overcoming addiction. I also read that her Mother followed her daughters wish and donated her kidneys and liver that SAVED 3 PEOPLE's lives that needed a transplant. To Lacie's mother & Father- What a courageous and true humanitarian you are and your daughter was special and i would love other people to look at her story here and look at the expressive art that this your girl drew describing her dependence to drugs. Thank you to Stephanie Bertholdo for writing this great article and showing the world how much of an epidemic we are in regarding pharmaceutical drugs.
